OKINAWAN CUISINE

Okinawa is famous for , among other things, it's unique cuisine. It is sort of a cross between Japanese and Chinese cuisines with a whole bunch of completely original Okinawan elements thrown in . It is some of the best food in the whole world! The best of the best is the following dish....... Pig feet slowly simmered in a sweet sesame seed sauce and served with mustard. I also had boiled Pigs ears....but they were no match for the Pig feet....The pig feet dish may not be the healthiest dish in the world.....it is loaded with fat.......but boy is it tasty! Posted by Picasa

Another Okinawan classic.........taco rice. The US military introduced tacos to Okinawa........corn tortillas being hard to come by, the resourceful Okinawans devised Taco Rice which is equally good as it's Mexican father. Posted by Picasa

Famous traditional Okinawan drink........A and W rootbeer...........I think they only sell this stuff now in Okinawa and Wisconsin...... sure was great to have it for the first time in about 30 years..... Only problem was that they served it in paper cups not the famous super thick A and W glass mugs. They had the mugs for sale though........About $8 a piece........... Posted by Picasa
