I discovered a very interesting place that is only about a two hour trip away from Tokyo. ( about an hour by train to Kurihara in Kanagawa prefecture and than an hour by ferry to Chiba prefecture. ) Nokogiriyama-Saw Mountain - is so named because it was home to a very big quarry. Tokyo Station, the emperor's palace, Tokyo University- you name, it they all have stones cut from the mountains of Nokogiriyama. The place has terrific scenery, two very large stone statues, and over 3,000 small ones.
