The Great Buddha at Todai-ji is one of the largest bronze figures in the world and was originally cast in 746. The present structure was rebuilt in 1709 after an earthquake damaged the figure. (The head fell off!) Unbelievably, the statue now is a mere two-thirds the size of the original! Posted by Picasa
