Japan's Ministry of the Environment held a nationwide "Lights Down" and CO2 reduction campaign nicknamed " Black Illumination 2006" on June 18. 38,000 facilities all over Japan , including major landmarks such as the Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo Station took part in the event. I visited the Honmon temple to witness their "Lights Down " ceremony. After a fantastic concert of traditional Shinto music ( We were told that some of the music that was played has remained unchanged for over a thousand years!) many of the lights in the temple complex were turned off. Candle light was everywhere! Posted by Picasa
